British pop sensation Steps are on a mission to make dance-a-thon history this half term by setting a Guinness World Record title for the largest number of people dancing to 90’s hit Tragedy – 180,000 in fact!
Steps fans and dance floor divas young and old are being urged to hot shoe shuffle down to South East London on Wednesday 31st October to join the band in making world record history.
The attempt, being hosted at Sainsbury’s, Stadium Way, Crayford at 3.30pm, marks the eagerly awaited Blu-Ray and DVD release of STEPS: The Ultimate Tour Live which is available to buy from 29th October.
Their sell-out 22-date 2012 arena tour across the UK saw Steps rounding up 179,850 fans to join in the iconic moves. And now the band is on the hunt for willing participants to hit the magic number of 180,000. Steps fans and first timers, shoppers and store staff are all being urged to take part.
Claire – who will be joined as usual by H, Lee, Lisa and Faye for the record attempt – says: “Thousands of fans have already danced their socks off to Tragedy in support of our world record attempt, and this dance-a-thon finale is our chance to step into the record books – but we need wiling participants to come out in force!”
World record advisor, Thomasina Gibson, who will be at the event, says; “This is a fantastic and fun opportunity for people of all ages to perform one of the world’s most popular pop classics and share a unique moment in time.
“Although this is a brand new record attempt, Steps have set the bar high as they wanted as many fans as possible to be a part of record breaking history. But I’m confident this final Tragedy show down will have them stepping up to the mark.”
For those participants whose dancing skills are ‘better best forgotten’, Gareth Walker, the Ultimate Tour’s show director and choreographer, will be teaching the infections moves, and STEPS will be dancing to the hit live on stage inside the supermarket.
Sainsbury’s Store Manager, Robert Johnson, says: “We are really excited to be welcoming Steps centre stage at our store for this tragedy-spectacular to mark their tour DVD release. It’s not often we see shoppers dancing down the aisles so this will be something else!”
To take part, people should e-mail stepsrecord@consolidatedpr.com. Full details will be sent to anyone who registers. The first 50 people who sign up and attend will receive a Steps goodie bag, and one participant on the day will bag a trolley full of their favourite items to the value of £250. Steps will also be meeting fans and signing copies of their new DVD in store after the record attempt has taken place.
Notice:
All under 16’s will need to be accompanied by an adult (over 18) who will also be required to take part. You must be over 16 to register. Those who turn up who have not registered will not be permitted to participate in the Guinness World Record attempt.
